Lamprey Bent Pose is a three-dimensional model of Lamprey (lamprey eel) which is a specimen of ancient lineage of jawless fish of the order Petromyzontiformes.
Lampreys, belonging to the superclass Cyclostomata, are primitive vertebrates characterized by their lack of jaws and cartilaginous skeletons. These ancient fish possess elongated, eel-like bodies and distinctive round mouths filled with rows of sharp teeth. Distributed worldwide in both freshwater and marine habitats, lampreys exhibit diverse feeding strategies. While some species are parasitic, attaching themselves to larger fish to consume blood and bodily fluids, others are non-parasitic, feeding on algae, detritus, and small invertebrates. Notably, lampreys undergo a remarkable life cycle, transitioning from blind, filter-feeding larvae buried in sediment to sighted, migratory adults capable of reproduction, often traveling long distances to spawn in freshwater streams.
