Spirit of 30A Coastal Biplane YMF-5 Rigged an open cockpit, light biplane produced by the WACO Aircraft Corporation of the United States.
Based on the design of the 1934 WACO (Weaver Aircraft Company) "YMF" model, the YMF-5 was introduced in 1986. Each is hand-built, and while its design hails from the early days of aviation, the YMF-5 is hewn of modern materials and proven, state-of-the-art systems, including modern alloys and glass touchscreen digital avionics. The YMF-5 has a tandem, dual cockpit design with seating for two on the forward seat and one for the pilot in the rear. The biplane features a staggered wing design, with the upper 30-foot wing situated forward of the lower. Powered by a single seven-cylinder, air-cooled Jacobs R-755A2 engine that delivers 300 horsepower to a fixed-pitch wood propeller, the aircraft cruises at 115 miles per hour, has a top end of 214 mph, and stalls at 59 mph.
