Recognizable by its distinctive black and white ringed tail, this lemur typically inhabits dry, deciduous forests and spiny scrub habitats. With a body length of around 17 to 18 inches and weighing between 5 to 7 pounds, these lemurs exhibit a predominantly herbivorous diet, consuming fruits, leaves, flowers, and occasionally insects. They live in groups called troops, consisting of up to 30 individuals led by a dominant female. Communication within the troop involves vocalizations, scent marking, and elaborate displays. Sadly, due to habitat loss and hunting, the Ring-tailed Lemur faces threats to its survival, prompting conservation efforts to protect its diminishing populations.
