A mother kangaroo, known as a doe, raises her baby, called a joey, in a unique way. After birth, the tiny joey crawls into the mother's pouch where it continues to develop. The pouch offers safety and nourishment, as the joey nurses from the mother's teats inside. Over time, the joey grows, eventually beginning to explore outside the pouch, but it returns to nurse and for protection until it's mature enough to be independent.
