Glass Full of Medicinal Leeches is a 3D model of transparent glass vessel (container) with set of blood-sucking annelid worms that have been used for medicinal purposes for centuries.
Today, medicinal leeches are used in certain medical procedures, particularly in the field of plastic surgery and reconstructive, and they can be employed to improve blood circulation in reattached or transplanted tissues, such as severed toes, fingers, or ears. By allowing the excess blood to be drained from the reattached tissue, leeches can aid in the process of tissue healing and reduce the risk of congestion and clotting. Well known Hirudo medicinalis, the European medicinal leech, is a specimen of leeches used as 'medicinal leeches'. Medicinal leeches have a long history of use in traditional medicine (alternative medicine) and have also found applications in modern medicine. Segmented parasitic or predatory worms that feed by attaching to vertebrates via the suckers at either end, piercing the skin and injecting anti-coagulants (Hirudin) and anaesthetics before sucking out blood.
